THE REVOLUTIONARY RISE OF SOUTH AFRICAN FIFA GAMING
The 2023 FIFA season started with a bang as Trenchtown hosted the first tournament of the year in a collaboration between The Toyota Gaming Engine [TTGE], African Cyber Gaming League [ACGL], and Kasi Gamerz. With loadshedding postponing the original event in Strand, 32 eager competitors were ready to battle it out in a double-elimination tournament.

16 players from Kasi Gamerz development project faced off against 16 of Cape Town’s rising stars, including two of the project’s brightest prospects - Athi and Dale. Both players had a score to settle with Luke, who had previously bested them in tournaments at ATK Arena and Radisson RED. The three players lived up to their reputations, with all three ending in the top three at the event.
Athi’s 2-1 victory over Luke sent him to the loser’s bracket final, while Dale remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Athi dominated the first match of the grand final with a 4-0 win, but it was Dale who held his nerve in the final match, securing the championship with a late goal and taking home R500.

In Mfuleni, 13 players, mostly new attendees, gathered for the second tournament of the collaboration. Reatile, a previous winner, made the trip from the Strand events and once again proved his mettle by securing two wins in the grand final against Lagco.
The next few months promises to be an exciting time for the FIFA gaming community.
